Alert Version 1.0
(C) 1993 DJS Software
WHAT IS ALERT?
--------------
Suppose you want to run certain programs automatically on
certain dates. ALERT makes this possible. By putting
an execution statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file that runs
ALERT, you will be able to set up a monthly, yearly, or
daily computer boot schedule.
WHY USE ALERT?
--------------
Since computer viruses are becoming such a problem, more and
more programs have been issued that track down and destroy
viruses on your system. ALERT comes in handy when you want
to run a program that scans your system for viruses on every
Sunday of each week or on some other time basis.
ALERT is a quality utility that deserves space on your system.
You may create your own data file that contains date and
action information. When ALERT is run, it checks this file
for the information it needs, and if it finds a date that matches
your computer's clock, it will run the program or enter the
command that you specify. If no entry is found for that date,
ALERT will simply abort.
HOW TO PROGRAM ALERT
--------------------
Using ALERT is extremely easy. There are some rules that apply
to the data file (ALERT.DAT) that your create and modify using
your text editor :
1.) The ALERT.DAT file must be on the default directory.
2.) The dates must be in this format :
04-21-1993
or
10-12-1993
3.) The data file must be in ASCII format.
This is an example of an ALERT.DAT file :
05-19-1992
c:\util\list
05-20-1992
c:\windows\win
To create an ALERT.DAT file, simply put the date in the correct
format. Under the date, put the command you would like to
execute on that date.
To execute multiple commands, put the date again, and enter the
second command :
05-19-1992
c:\util\list
05-19-1992
c:\windows\win
05-19-1992
c:\virukill\vrscan c:
Be sure not to include any other text in your data file.
